Beaubourg mon amour — 50 Years of the Centre Pompidou

On 29 January 2027, Beaubourg mon amour, an interdisciplinary event marking the 50th anniversary of the Centre Pompidou, will take place at the Philharmonie de Paris. This collaborative project between the Centre Pompidou and the Philharmonie de Paris establishes a structural dialogue connecting visual arts, music, cinema, spoken word, and sonic experimentation. As part of the programme, Man Ray’s experimental film Les Mystères du Château de Dé (1929) will be screened alongside a new musical composition by Mayu Hirano, performed live by the Ensemble Intercontemporain.

Hirano’s composition functions not as a conventional cinematic accompaniment, but as a sonic recontextualization of avant-garde cinema, interrogating the operational relationship between image, time, and auditory space. The work internalizes the film’s core structural themes—chance, movement, and the instability of perception—and translates them into a contemporary acoustic framework. By overlaying a multidimensional soundscape onto Man Ray’s visual grammar, the piece creates an alternative mode of synthesis that links early 20th-century Dadaist and Surrealist methodologies with 21st-century new music.
