On May 31, 2024, the official website of the Ensemble Intercontemporain published an Éclairage article dedicated to Parfum d’un Autre Monde, the new work by Mayu Hirano for viola and electronics.

The text, written by the composer herself, reflects on the inspiration, form, and sound world of the piece, ahead of its world premiere on June 7, 2024 at the Philharmonie de Paris, during IRCAM’s ManiFeste Festival.

In this Éclairage, Hirano evokes the influence of the Noh play Hagoromo (“The Feather Mantle”), a poetic allegory and prayer for peace. Drawing from her violin improvisations, she describes how the material was intuitively selected and transformed into a generative musical grammar. The music unfolds as a multi-directional metamorphosis, blurring boundaries between day and night, present and eternity — a concept rooted in the Noh idea of Ikai (“another world”).

The electronics, designed at IRCAM by João Svidzinski, fuse with the viola performed by Odile Auboin (Ensemble Intercontemporain), creating a sensorial experience akin to a perfume spreading through air, constantly shifting and resonating.

This Éclairage highlights Hirano’s unique synthesis of Japanese tradition and contemporary sound exploration, offering audiences insight into the aesthetic and poetic depth of her new creation.

2024年5月31日、アンサンブル・アンテルコンタンポラン（Ensemble Intercontemporain） の公式ウェブサイトにて、平野真由の新作 《Parfum d’un Autre Monde》（ヴィオラとエレクトロニクスのための） に関する Éclairage（作曲者自身による作品解説） が掲載されました。

このテキストは、2024年6月7日 フィルハーモニー・ド・パリ における 世界初演（IRCAM フェスティバル「マニフェスト」） に先立ち、作曲者自身が作品のインスピレーションや構造、音響世界について振り返ったものです。

平野は、平和を祈る能楽《羽衣》から着想を得て、三保の松原に舞い降りた天女の物語を音響的に描写しました。自身によるヴァイオリン即興から抽出した素材を直感的に選び、音色・身振り・電子合成を通して「生成文法」として展開させています。そこでは、現在と永遠、昼と夜が交錯する「異界（Ikai）」の概念が音楽的変身（métamorphose）として立ち現れます。

初演では オディール・オボワン（ヴィオラ、EIC） と ジョアン・スヴィヅィンスキ（IRCAM コンピュータ音楽デザイン） が出演し、ヴィオラとエレクトロニクスの響きが「空気に漂う香り」のように融合し、揺れ動き続ける感覚的体験を生み出しました。

このÉclairageは、日本の伝統と現代音楽の探究を融合させた平野真由の創作世界を紹介し、作品の美学と詩的深みを聴衆に伝えるものとなっています。
